FRANK GRIEBE, cinematographer:

Born on August 28th in Hamburg, West Germany. He is one of the leading German cinematographers from the mid-generation with up to now 46 credits. Mostly known by his tandem collaboration with the director Tom Tykwer. At the beginning of their careers their talents were discovered by Manaki Brothers Int. Cinematographers Festival, 16th edition Competition, with their first film DEADLY MARIA in 1995, that brought Eder Student’s Jury Award. Next Griebe’s participation in the Competition of 17th Manaki Brothers edition, was in 1996 with his second film THE BURNING SNAIL by the director Thomas Stiller. His third participation in the Competition Camera 300 was in 1998 at the 19th Manaki Brothers edition, with the film TRAINS-N-ROSES/TRAINBIRDS by Peter Lichterfeld. His next/forth Competition was also successful with the film RUN LOLA RUN by Tom Tykwer, for which he won The Special Jury Award at the 21st Manaki Brothers edition in 2000. The tandem Griebe-Tykwer continued internationally very successfully with other films: WINTER SLEEPERS (1997), THE PRINCESS AND THE WARRIOR (2000), HEAVEN (2002), PERFUME (2006), THE INTERNATIONAL (2009), “3” (2010), CLOUD ATLAS (2012).
